Our Story
Founded by Volunteers
If you’re already a member, we thank you and ask you to spread the word to your BASF co-workers and immediate family members! If you aren’t a member, join us today and start enjoying the benefits of membership!
In 1958, a small group of Wyandotte Chemical employees decided to form a credit union in order to provide low-cost loans to each other.
Our name is a combination of WYandotte and GeisMAR.
Wyandotte Chemical (now BASF Louisiana) volunteers ran the credit union from a small office during lunchtime for 9 years until they hired their first employee.
Today, we still serve ONLY BASF Louisiana employees, retirees, and their families. Our volunteer Board of Directors and Committees are active or retired BASF employees. Unlike a bank, we are member-owned and do not have stockholders.
All the profits made by Wymar are returned to the membership in the form of:
Lower loan rates
Higher savings rates
Reduced or no fees
Special dividends
New services
Added technology to better serve you
